Project - Festival Gardens Site, Liverpool
Client - Langtree

Scope of Works:
• Following 25 years of neglect the Festival Gardens site in Liverpool originally opened in 1984 was scheduled for re-development including restoration of original features.
• Quadriga were employed by the main contractor Mayfield Construction together with Liverpool City Council to restore the two Chinese pagodas and undertake the re-build of the Moongate Wall which form the central and main features of the site.
• The restoration of the Chinese pagodas involved a mixture of resin repairs, resin pinning, resin timber repairs, re-rendering of timber columns, replacement of timber columns & beams and the complete strip and re-roofing of the structures. Special Chinese tiles were imported from China which matched the original tiling. In addition, where possible, salvaged tiles were re-glazed and re-used.
• The Moongate Wall was demolished due to the structural stability. Prior to demolition the original Chinese tiles were salvaged ready for re-use.
• A number of features of the wall were re-cast such as the arch formers, window frames & in particular the flower pattern for the circular entrance through the wall which required a rubber mould being cast from an original section.
• The wall was re-built with a combination of engineering blue bricks, blockwork, concrete infill, specialist Chinese coping detail and a rendered finish all to match that which existed.
