Investing In The Future
The UK has a huge range of historical buildings that form an integral part of our history. Unfortunately many of the buildings are suffering through lack of maintenance and if remedial works are not carried out soon they may be lost forever. Part of the problem lies with a lack of appropriate skills in key areas.
Quadriga Contracts Ltd are specialist in the restoration of buildings made of masonry, timber and concrete. Our team of specialists is unrivalled, but even we have seen an age and skills gaps appear over the years.
Determined to be proactive, we set about identifying the best apprenticeship scheme to fill this gap … it was no easy task.
“We were looking for a scheme which offered training and qualifications in masonry, to include traditional stone, brick and also carpentry and joinery. We needed something that would offer our staff training which was specifically geared toward the restoration and conservation of historic buildings but also embraced the latest advances in technology” – Mark Pearson, Managing Director, Quadriga Contracts Ltd.
Quadriga found everything they were looking for with an NVQ course run by Heritage Craft Alliance, an organisation in the UK with the ability to deliver Level 3 diplomas in Heritage Skills.
Four full time staff were handpicked from Quadrigas’ site team and placed on the course. The course runs for 17 months with the apprentices spending one week in every month on residential training with Heritage Craft Alliance at Bedale in Yorkshire.
