Thorough cleaning of the external facades of a building can make a significant difference to its overall appearance. In the same way, careful interior cleaning can also considerably enhance the appeal of a building.
Furthermore, cleaning works are often a requirement to adequately expose the faults on decayed facades and this in turn allows an accurate diagnosis to be made.
Quadriga has the experience and expertise to carry out cleaning works to a range of different substrates, among them; concrete, terrazzo, marble, brick and stone.
Water washing is the most commonly used method of cleaning used by Quadriga, as this method is least likely to result in damage to the host substrate during the cleaning process.
DOFF cleans stonework and masonry using high temperature steam. Whilst the temperature in the system is high, the pressure on the surface being cleaned is very gentle and the volume of water is low. The surface is therefore not saturated and will be dry
The temperature and pressure of the steam can be controlled to remove many types of paint or biological matter. When the temperature in the system is high, the pressure on the surface being cleaned is very gentle and the volume of water is low. The surface is therefore not saturated and will be dry within minutes. The system is extremely effective at removing graffiti from virtually all surfaces and in most cases without leaving traces or residues.
The superheated water will remove moss, algae, fungi and other biological matter and will also kill off spores. This means there’s then no need to use a chemical biocide during the removal process or as a protection against further biological activity.
JOS is essentially a wet, mild jet abrasive cleaning system, made suitable for conservation applications by a controllable low pressure vortex of air, water and granulate, swirling almost parallel to the surface of the stone. The swirling action cleans away unwanted matter more carefully than conventional right-angle impact systems.
This method is particularly useful for delicate or intricate surfaces and may even be used on glass, glazed tiles and other polished surfaces, by using very fine media such as calcium carbonate and calcite to prevent scratching or discoloration.
JOS is chemical-free and environmentally friendly system, in which dust and slurry levels are kept to an absolute minimum. It is gentle enough to be used on delicate surfaces, including mouldings and areas of carving.
Other methods of cleaning used include soda blasting and chemical cleaning.
