SUMMARY:Concrete Preservation Technologies - RAAC cathodic protection solutions
DESCRIPTION:For the next Heritage and Conservation Group breakfast event\, we’re delighted to welcome Concrete Preservation Technologies who will be speaking to us about their innovative RAAC- Guard cathodic protection system\, which provides a solution to the critical issues being faced with RAAC (reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete). \nRAAC is a material that was commonly used in flat roofing\, floors and walls between the 1950s and 1990s.  It offered a cheaper solution to standard concrete\, being quicker to produce and easier to install.  However\, it is less durable and with a lifespan of around 30 years\, we are now seeing degradation of RAAC which can be prone to sudden collapse.  Recent government guidance has advised schools and colleges to close any buildings known to contain RAAC and the material has been found in airports\, hospitals and even a part of the Palace of Westminster. \nThe presentation will cover the following: \n\nWhat is RAAC and where can it be found?\nThe key issues currently being faced with this type of construction material.\nThe importance of surveying RAAC and what we should be looking for.\nCorrosion in RAAC.\nManagement of corrosion and a case study.
