Heritage Morning: Structural Waterproofing in Historic and Listed Buildings
Join us on Thursday 17 September 2026 for our next Heritage Morning, held in the distinctive surroundings of Manchester Tennis and Racquet Club.
The morning will feature a presentation by James Hockey of Trace Basements, exploring the challenges associated with structural waterproofing in historic and listed buildings.
Effective waterproofing solutions must protect buildings from water ingress while respecting their historic fabric, significance and long-term performance. During this practical, case-study-led session, James will consider how approaches to structural waterproofing in historic buildings have evolved.
The presentation will also explore recent developments in design guidance and codes of practice, including the provisions within BS 8102:2022 relating to buildings of historic significance.
The session will cover;
• The particular challenges associated with waterproofing historic and listed buildings
• How waterproofing design and installation methods have developed
• The importance of selecting appropriate and proportionate interventions
• Recent changes to industry guidance and good practice
• Examples from completed heritage projects
The event will begin at 8:00am with breakfast, followed by the presentation and an opportunity for informal discussion and networking.
